Last night at 10:30 I picked my family up from the airport. I am glad to have them back.
We survived the floods, and are glad to be on regular water usage. We are so sad for all of the people whose homes were flooded. It is sure a nasty thing.
Last week I was just engrossed in the flooding coverage. It was so unbelievable watching the water just rise, and rise, and rise.
On Tuesday Hayden and I headed to Cedar Falls to meet my friend Sara and her girls at the pool. We had a great time. Hayden loved splashing in the pool and walking around. He however did not like the lazy river, and we got kicked out because he refused to sit in the tube!
Then I headed over to my parents house to clean, and get groceries for them for their return home. We were greeted by my Step-Brother, power washer, and driveway full of stuff. The warehouse that they stored most of their belongings they salvaged from the tornado flooded. Unbelievable!!!! So he was washing all of the things they salvaged from the flood. So I laid Hayden down and started washing greasy, thick, black muck off of all of their belongings. What a mess. My step brother said if you get to choose between a flood or a tornado.......choose a tornado!
Thursday evening we met our friend Kari, Todd and the boys at Hog Wild days. We ate a bunch of yummy fair food and played games and watched Will and Charlie ride some rides. We had a great time. It was a beautiful evening.
Today I got my hair chopped off!!! I will have to post pics once I get the camera dusted off. It had been a long time since I took pictures.
Tomorrow we are headed up to Cedar Falls to celebrate Raleigh's 75th birthday with my step siblings. It will be awesome to be with everyone.
Sunday we are having a shower for my sister.

New Crest
Now they are predicting a crest at 32 feet. It keeps rising by a couple of feet every few hours.
I just saw a national news report on CBS. The reporter said that this scene reminds him of Hurricane Katrina. There are at least 100 streets flooded and now at least 4,000 homes have now been evacuated. They have no official plan for evacuation now, because it has surpassed the 500 year flood plan. So now they are mandatory evacuating everyone in a block of the rising water. So the evacuation areas are changing minute by minute.
As I sit here we are getting even more rain. Probably our 7th storm of the day. It is just unbelievable. They showed some video from downtown CR. The library is almost half covered. Furniture is floating around in Smulekoffs. The jail, fire station, city hall, courthouses are completely submerged.

The National Weather Service has officially stopped predicting the time and height of the flood crest here.

We are still 20 blocks from the rising water. We lost power this morning, and I was told we may not get it back for between 7-17 days. Right after I was told that, I heard the joyful him of our air conditioner.
Suposedly everyone that does not have power now, are not going to see it until the waters recede.
The water plant is operating at 25% capacity because of power outages.
I-380 is down to 1-2 lanes and there is rumors they will shut down completely
1,900 homes have been evacuated *3200 Homes Evacuated. 9,000 + people is the latest number*
We are getting torrential rains
The whole city is under a flash flood warning. The sewers are almost at capacity. The threat for sewers backing up are growing.
I actually called Joey at work today to ask him if his truck could float away if the water was up tp the wheel well. It is seriously backing up that much in the streets!
All of the bridges downtown are covered with water.
There are semis floating down the river near Quaker Oats.
It is a mess, but I am thankful that our home is dry (for the most part) and we are far enough away from the rising river.
As I am signing off, I can hear the rumble of thunder and more rain headed our way!
The river is supposed to crest Tomorrow at 11 am. * the river gauge has been down, so they were estimating the river level at 23ft. It was supposed to crest at 24.7. Now they fixed the river gauge, and the river is at 27, and they estimate the crest to now be 28.5. The previous record is 20.
Just a few facts for those of you checking in. I am going to shut down the power, and once things settle down again, I will update everyone and respond to your emails.
Back to moving things up high in the basement in case the sewer decided to back up!

Flood 2008
My friend Missy is doing an awesome job documenting the flooding in Cedar Falls. It is amazing. I got a text from our local newspaper and it was a sever weather alert. The text read "The National Weather Service now says the Cedar River flooding will be an "historic" event."

Amazing Video
This video was taken by our friends brother from their back deck of the Tornado coming into Parkersburg. They didn't have any damage at their home, but their relatives in town lost everything. They currently have 25+ people in their home. Joey and I always say that the Bellows family would be there to help anyone and this proves it. They are a great family!

Rid dit
When you ask Hayden what a frog says he says rid dit. It is so cute. I could just eat him up!
Healthy Boy........ Whoot Whoot!
Hayden had a healthy checkup today!!!!! The ear infection is FINALLY gone!!! Whoo hoo. In fact Dr. Nau said that Hayden's ears looked "virginal", no scaring or anything. I thought that was an odd term to use but what the heck. My baby is finally healthy.
Hayden was still holding a grudge from the last appointment. He vomited last time when the Dr. looked in his throat. I suggested we do the throat first this time since he wasn't tooo mad yet.
Hayden refused to take the sticker at the end or give Dr. Nau a high 5. Then Hayden stood on my lap with his arms crossed over his chest and stared down the Dr. Which Dr. Nau thought was extremely funny. The Dr. also pointed out that in all of his years of practicing he has never had a child do that. I wonder how many times over Hayden's childhood we are going to hear "in all my years of doing this I have never had a child do this?" Great!
He also told me not to worry at all about Hayden hitting. He also told me that we shouldn't be using time out yet because that promotes more attention. We are just supposed to walk away. He said he has a lot of kids that bite and hit and scratch worse and they aren't in juvie. He assured us we are doing a good job. Sometimes it is good to hear that we are doing a good job, and get reassurance that our little cherub isn't an overly aggressive bully!
