Hayden and the Fire Truck

Paked up and moved to Grandma & Grandpa K's

We got up and packed up all of our things to move to the Klinkhammers to spend the night since all of the festivities were on that side of town.
When we got there we unpacked the car and I took Grandma K to the grocery store to buy things that she need to take to Melissa's for Jordan's 1st birthday/New year's party. We went to Piggly Wiggly (I love that name!!!) we ran into Joey's cousins husband Kirk. They are having a get together-Packer game party because he is going into the navy next week. The grocery store was packed! The lines for the checkouts were all the way down the aisles and they were out of little smokies!!!! Disaster.
So we rushed home to make the bean dip and sent Joey and Grandpa out to find little smokies. They returned at 4 with the last 2 packs of smokies in town! Oops the party started at 4 so we arrived a little late.
We pulled around the corner to flashing lights and a big fire truck! Melissa's dad was a fireman and his friend helped Melissa set up the drive by for Jordan's party since that was his theme. Everyone was surprised. Hayden liked the lights and had his picture taken with a fireman. Joey's inner child came out as soon as he saw the lights and was climbing around in the truck. Luckily most of the children there were 2 and under so he didn't have to push to many out of the way!!!! :)
There were about 40 people at the party and about 9 boys under 2. It was neat to talk to some of the other moms there and get some tips. They had a lot of food so Joey and I quickly jumped in line. What is better than appetizers? Pickle wraps, little smokies, bean dip, cheese, crackers, beer. YUMMY! We stayed until 6 and then it was off to Kathy and Kirks house.
We arrived at their house just in time to see the kickoff of the Packer Bears game. They had a lot of food there as well. Kirk was even cooking wings in a turkey deep fat fryer in the house. Um hello!!!! Can you say carbon monoxide poisoning?!?!?!? I think Joey was the only person to think about that because they had all of the windows shut in the house. So Joey made Hayden and me wait in the front room until he got some windows open! Always Exciting!!!!
Joey's cousin Heather was there with her husband and daughter. Joey's uncle Ron and Cathy were there too. It was great to talk to everyone and hang out.
Joey's cousins brought some PS2 games that we loved. One was a guitar game that you actually plug in electric guitars and play a song against other players. Joey like that one. (See Pic Above)
I on the other hand enjoyed doing karaoke in the PS2 with Kathy, Heather, and Kathy. Oh and Ron helped out some as well. Needless to say the house was LOUD. By halftime of the game we had had enough and we headed back to Grandma & Grandpa K's for the evening with cherry cheesecake in hand.
We decided not to go back to Melissa's house to ring in the New Year simply because we were SOOOOOOO tired. A lot of ruining around in 1 week. So we made coffee and Grandpa played with Hayden and we ate cherry cheesecake and apple pie. Joey went to bed at 10 and Grandma & Grandpa and I stayed up until 11 and talked.

Decided to stay

Well we decided to stay another day. Figured we would stick around to see more people and visit people we haven't seen that long. We went to the mall to look around for a few minutes grabbed a bite to eat at Qudoba and headed over to Grandma and Grandpa K's. We sat and visited and Joey ran a new cable line to downstairs so they could get cable on their TV downstairs. Joey's cousin Michelle came over with her new baby so we visited them.
Then we ordered pizza from Wells Brothers and I took Grandma over to pick it up. We left early so we could drive around the square and look at the Christmas display that Grandma heard was spectacular. We got down to the square and there was a manger scene and tree. So not spectacular!!!!! Anyway it gave us a good laugh.
We we came back we ate pizza and Hayden and I went over to Melissa's house so Jordan and Hayden could play. They like to look at each other and Jordan liked to come over and hold Hayden's hand and point to his eye, well not always pointing I think there was some poking in there as well. Then we checked out their newly finished basement. Mike finished the thing in 4 days. They had it painted and things hung on the wall.
Then back to Grandma and Grandpa K's. hayden laid on the floor and played and discovered if he stretched just enough he could get his sock and toes in his mouth.

Chicago and Christmas Dinner

Joey got home at 5am. He had an eventful night. They arrested someone on a warrant, witnessed a domestic altercation, and got to witness the booking procedure at the county jail. Needless to say Joey had a lot of fun with his cousins.
Joey's cousin Melissa called me and asked if I wanted to go to Chicago to Ikea with her. Of course I couldn't pass up an opportunity to roam through Ikea so I went along. Even though Joey got home at 5am he couldn't resist a trip to Ikea so he got a few hours of sleep and Melissa picked us up at 9:30. Hayden came along too. Melissa's son Jordan liked Hayden and they held hands in the car all the way to Jordan's Grandma's house.
We stayed at Ikea for a few hours. The trip from WI to Chicago took 1 hour. Melissa picked up some shelves for her basement that her husband just finished and we bought some glasses and towels.
When Melissa dropped us off we headed over to Racine to meet Joey's Aunt Barbara and David at Panera. Joey had to hook up their wireless Internet on their new laptop before they head out of town.
Then we headed back to Kenosha to eat at the Fireside to celebrate Christmas with the Paricka family. After we ate we went back to Grandma P's for gifts and desert. Grandma P makes the BEST apple pie.
Joey then went to hang out with his cousin Pauly and I played Rummikub again with Gail, Gabrielle, and Grandma until midnight again!

Hanging out with Great Grandma Paricka

Fun with Great Grandma

Police and Rummikub

Joey got up at 5:00 am to get ready to ride along with his cousin Eric. He is a Kenosha county sheriff. Joey went with Eric from 6-2. They chased a horse, arrested a lady with a warrant, went to a car crash, and pulled over some cars. I am sure they did a lot more but that is all I can remember.
While Joey was gone Hayden and I hung out with Grandma Paricka. She taught me how to play Rummikub and we played quite a few games. Hayden laid on the floor and watched us. Then Great Grandma held him and they watched cartoons and talked to each other.
When Joey got home we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa Klinkhammers in Racine. I dropped Joey and Hayden off and then headed over to Joey's cousin Melissa's house a few blocks away. Her son Jordan is having his first birthday party on New Year's Eve so we went to a few stores to get some things she needed for the party.
I headed back to Joey's grandparents house and everyone was over. Uncle Ron and Cathy. Aunt Barbara and David. Joe and Bev. Joey's sister Jen, Matt, Faith and Noah arrived shortly after I did. They were on their way back from Buffalo, NY where they spent Christmas out there with Matt's family. Matt and Jen are expecting their 3rd child sometime this summer!
We ordered pizza and the family exchanged gifts. Joey took a nap because he was going on a ride with his other cousin Kevin (a Racine police officer) from 11pm to 5am. Joey took us back to Grandma Paricka's and Gail and Gabrielle were there visiting Grandma P. Joey left to meet his cousin and the girls stayed up until midnight playing Rummikub.

Wisconsin Here we Come

We left for Wisconsin at 9:30 am today. The only stop we made was in Dubuque to feed Hayden. He is a good traveler and hopefully that will continue!!!!!
We arrived in Kenosha, WI at 3:30. We are staying with Grandma Paricka. Joey's parents were there visiting her so we got to see everyone. We unloaded the car and visited for a bit and then headed to the cemetery to visit Joey's Grandpas gravesite. Then Joey's Dad, Grandma, Joey, Hayden, and I went to Milwaukee to visit Joey's uncle Paul in the hospital. He is having some problems with his heart pump.
Then we drove to Racine to drop Joey's dad off at Grandma and Grandpa Klinkhammers house and we headed back to Kenosha. We ordered pizza from Derangos pizza on the corner, a must have every time we stay with Grandma Paricka.
Hayden laid on the floor and played. He discovered his feet recently and loves to pull on them toward his face. Joey fixed grandmas tub because the stopper was broke and we went to bed.

Early Shopping

I hit Target and Hallmark early this morning. Target was nuts and so was Hallmark. I needed some wrapping paper and wanted to check out the sales for Christmas decor. I came home with 6 rolls of paper so i will be stocked up for a while.

I picked up some donuts and came home and we deep cleaned the bedroom. I finished our laundry and then packed for Wisconsin.

A package of goodies arrived from Ingrid. It was filled with tons of German sweets. Hayden got a wooden Noah's Ark. Joey got a shirt and some trinkets. I got a neat wooden Santa smoker. We also got a lot of other goodies. Opening up boxes from Ingird is definitely exciting as you never know what to expect inside.

Christmas Eve

Today we took our time getting packed up and out the door. We discovered that Hayden is getting his second tooth this morning. It is coming in on the bottom right next to the first one. He will have his 2 front teeth for Christmas!

We ate lunch with my Mom and Raleigh and then opened gifts. Then Joey got their wireless card working on their laptop so they will be all ready to get the Internet down in Arizona when they arrive.

We went to church with them at 3:00. I was happy that Pastor Ed read the Christmas story. that is one of my great Christmas memories of when I was younger. Then we came back to Mom's for desert and packed up and went over to the Paricka's.

We arrived at the Paricka's and they were relaxing. We opened a few gifts and then prepared appetizers. We just sat around and talked and relaxed. It ws nice. Then we played catchphrase and Johnny and Darliene left. Bev, Joe, Joey, and I stayed up until 11 to watch Scrooge. Unfortunately it was the really old version and we all lost interest quickly so it was off to bed.

No Snow for Christmas!

Well guess Hayden gets to experience his first Christmas without snow. I can't believe we don't have any snow on the ground. We did talk to some of our friends in Colorado and they have plenty! No work for a few days and chains required through town on the interstate. We miss that big snow there. I am sure it will be melted in a week or so anyway.

I had the flu on Wednesday. Went to mom's because we had to get some plumbing work done and they had to shut off the water. Made it up there ok but as soon as I pulled in the driveway I got SICK!!!!! Could barely carry Hayden in the house. Laid on their couch all day while Mom and Raleigh watched Hayden. Luckily Hayden was a great boy and didn't give them too much trouble. Joey had to come and pick us up after work and take us back to CR. Nasty. Am feeling a lot better now. Joey stayed home for a few hours Thursday morning so I could get some rest.

Joey and a couple other guys he works with took the gifts over to the family that we adopted. Then he came home and is off now until the 3rd. I am excited about that.

We went to see Santa yesterday. Hayden was all smiles in the line but was pretty somber on Santa's lap. There was plenty to look at. I don't think he even knew who was holding him. Santa gave him a snowman book and dad liked the experience so much he purchased a picture.

Last night we went to my Aunt and Uncles in Anamosa for dinner and drinks. All of my cousins were there and it was great to see everyone. Maggies parents and the Warners were there as well and it was great to chat with people we haven't seen for a long time. Hayden was sure on his best behavior. Everyone held him for the entire evening. He sure knows how to entertain a crowd. As we were getting ready to leave even with 25 plus adults staring at him in his car seat he managed to talk to everyone and laugh and laugh. And if anyone looked away he was quick to yell at them and demand all attention!

Off to Cedar Falls for lunch and church with Mom and R, and then off to the Paricka's for turkey dinner/appetizers!

Hope everyone has a great Christmas!

Fun with Family and Friends

Friday I had our bunko Christmas Party. It was a lot of fun. We had a fantastic dinner and a gift exchange. Then out to celebrate Shawnas birthday. It was a great girls night.

Sunday Joey took his final online and officially finished his class. Now he is class free for a couple of weeks. It will be nice for him to be able to focus on the holidays instead of homework. It will also be nice to spend some time with him and get some things done around the house!!!

Sunday night we were invited over to our neighbors house for a Christmas get together. Nancy had quite a spread! Lots of Spanish and Scandinavian foods. We meet some neighbors down the road and a couple with a son who is 4 months older than Hayden. It was a great time. Hayden was in a great mood and really hammed it up for all of the ladies! He was so tired from all of the socializing that he took a short nap by Nancy's fireplace. We are so blessed to have such a great neighbor.

Today Hayden and I met Mom, Raleigh, JP, and Becky at the Hellers house. Bill and Donna wanted to see Hayden. Then Mom, R, JP, and Becky went out to eat for their Christmas get together and Hayden and I went to Wal-Mart to pick up some pictures.
Then it was back to Becky's house to visit some more. We listened to a tape I found from December of 1979. My mom and dad made recordings of when I was little. There were parts of the tape where we shared Christmas with Becky and JP in 1979. That is when I received the famous Kool-aid shirt from Becky. There was also a lot of singing and talking with my dad. It is sooo great to have those memories and share them with Becky and JP now this many years later.

Hayden and I left there and went to Kohls to look for frames. Then we came home, ate supper quick, and I was back out shopping. I haven't bought anything really yet this year and just had a few things to purchase. I took advantage of the "Holiday Hours" and the store as I didn't get home until 10:15.

You can feel Christmas in the air and I am definitely in the Christmas mood. Sure I have been singing Christmas carols since before Thanksgiving but am now focusing on the exciting part of Christmas, spending some quality time with friends and family. Wow I am getting old!!!! Never believed my mom when she would tell me that presents wouldn't be the most exciting part of Christmas as I got older. I am looking forward to focus less on gifts this year and more on the people that we care about.

Hayden Joseph Paricka

Warm day

The temp here was in the 50's today. Will it ever snow by Christmas???

Hayden hung out in his pj's most of the day. He is a little cranky, I am assuming because of his tooth. He played on the floor and in his exersaucer. He sat in his swing for a bit. He doesn't like his swing as much anymore. He rarely will fall asleep in it. A month ago I would of never thought that would be possible. He lived in the swing the first few months! Now he likes to take naps in his crib. That was rarely the case before. Guess that is part of growing up.

I talked to Ingrid today. Their car arrived and Andrew passed his drivers test. He drove the car today and they got European licence plates. Ingrid went on a tour of the town with a group from the Army. They offer a class to learn about customs and German culture. She had fun seeing the sights. Ingrid is taking her driving test soon and they move into their apartment Tuesday. They get their first load of belongings Monday and the last load the first of January. Ingrid is hoping she sent the things she needs the most in the first load.

They checked out plane tickets to Paris from their place. $40 each. They are thinking of going there for Christmas. How neat would that be??!!?? I helped Ingrid research car navigation systems. They are going to buy one because she feels it would help her navigate the unfamiliar territory and she says they sign the roads terrible there.

My friend Teresa came over and dropped of a Christmas tree, lights and all the decorations she had for it. She doesn't feel like putting up multiple trees up anymore. She and her husband are downsizing now that they are empty nesters so we are happy to help them out and take some of their things!!

Fa la la la la

Not sure why I titled my post that.......but I have had that song stuck in my head all day!!!

Last night we met Joey's coworker and his family at Wal-mart to shop for the family that a few of the guys in Joey's lab adopted for Christmas. Then we went to Carlos o Kellys with them for supper. Then it was a mad dash to make it back home by 9:00 so we could watch our favorite show Everest.

Our realtor came over to see Hayden and dropped a gift off. She is trying to talk me into getting my realtor licence. Not sure I want to do that right now. I think it will take up a lot of time that I don't want to give up right now. Maybe when Hayden is older.

We are feeding Hayden cereal now before his last bottle of the day. He is doing pretty well. He opens his mouth when we bring the spoon up to his mouth but is still working on the swallowing part. We also started brushing his teeth (well tooth and gums) with a brush you put over your finger. He loves it which surprised me. He cries when we take the brush out of his mouth. He is also moving around in his crib a lot. Every morning when I go in to get him he is not in the same part of the crib that I put him to bed in.

Shawna came over for a few minutes over her lunch break to give Hayden some hugs. Her birthday is Friday and we have our bunko Christmas party so we had to plan out all of the festivities for Friday. Looking forward to an evening out with the girls!!!!

First Tooth

Well it is official. Hayden is getting his first tooth. Joey noticed the tooth coming through in the bottom tonight. Our little baby is growing up!

This weekend flew by. Joey was up late with homework. This last class has taken up a lot of his time. At least 15 hours a week of homework. He finishes up this weekend and does not start another until after the Holidays. Yippee. It will be nice to see him. He gets the 23rd through the 3rd off work for Christmas. Definitely looking forward to that.

Hayden and I just hung out inside today. We worked on tummy time and I discovered that Hayden will tolerate tummy time more when Benny (our cat) is around. When Joey got home from work we ate supper and I went to the mall to get a gift for our exchange at bunko this Friday. Joey gave Hayden a bath and read him some books.

Trip to CF and Waterloo

We went to Cedar Falls today to pick out the pictures that we wanted to order of Hayden that we had shot last week. Quite a few turned out well! Mom is going to take them in Monday and get them ordered so we can get the Christmas prints back before Christmas is over.

Then off to Rudy's taco in Waterloo for a yummy lunch with Joe, Bev, and John. We went over to visit Joe and Bev after lunch and hear about their trip to Mexico. This picture is Hayden sitting in his Be' Be' pod. He loves this chair! Then Hayden fell asleep and back to Cedar Rapids we came. All the hugs and smooches he received from both sets of Grandparents can wear a guy out!

Joey and Hayden watched the space shuttle launch online and I picked up a little.

Hayden went to bed at 8:00 and Joey is starting his homework. I am going to bed early because I am tired!!!! Posted by Picasa

Sleepy Day

Hayden slept a lot today recovering from his trauma yesterday at the Dr. That left a lot of time for me to get some much needed organizing done. Joey gave Hayden a bath and we read books and worked on tummy time. Hayden is not a big fan of tummy time!!!!! Joey and Hayden went to bed at 8 and I have definitely been enjoying quiet time. We are headed up to CF tomorrow to get Hayden's proofs from last week and will probably stop in to see Bev and Joe and hear all about their trip to Mexico.

First blog

Well I finally bought into it. After a year of watching friends blog about their families I figured I should join in. As our family grows and spreads around the country and world I figured this would be a good way to stay in touch. Seems like we get so busy and it is hard to call and catch up with everyone we want to. Plus I figured this would be a good way for us to look back and remember what we did last week. Seems like I am having problems remembering what we did yesterday. And Hayden does so many new things every day it is easy for us to forget all he has acomplished in his 4 short months!

So now that I have my explanation laid out on with the bloging!!!!!

Today we had Hayden's 4 month checkup. Dr. Nau said he is growing like a champ. He had his shots and some tugging on his circumcision area. Seems like it wants to heal weird. Poor guy!
He weighed 16lbs 13.5oz and 26 1/4" long. 90% for both height and weight. We got the OK to start feeding him rice cereal and then start feeding him fruits and vegies 2 weeks before his 6 month appointment.
Then it was off to Wal-Mart to get some things. While we were there we received a call from Dr. Nau's nurse and the vacination that they didn't have for Hayden just arrived so back to the office we went. The high today was 19 degrees so needless to say this is not the day we want to be runing around.

Then I was off to the dentist and mom came down to watch Hayden. We moved the computer down to our bedroom last night so I have an evening of cleaning and organizing ahead of me.

Well that is it for my first blog. Pretty painless I must say.
